Chicago area organizations are always looking for volunteers and donations. Here are just a few that you can support this holiday season.
Give Time
Volunteer During the Holidays
Misericordia Heart of Mercy, 773-973-6300
Misericordia is a home for 600 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities that provides the full continuum of care to maximize independence, self-determination, interpersonal relationships and community engagement. The holiday season is Misericordia’s busiest time and there are many holiday volunteer opportunities available for special events and in the bakery. For more information, click here or contact Theresa Rooney (theresar@misericordia.com) or Mary Doherty (marydo@misericordia.com) for volunteer opportunities during this holiday season in the Misericordia Hearts & Flour Bakery.
Give Things
Support Refugees
RefugeeOne, 773-989-5647
Make It Better Philanthropy Award winner RefugeeOne aids refugees fleeing war, terror and persecution by helping them build new lives here in the Chicago area. RefugeeOne is looking for 2017 wall or desk calendars for apartments being prepared for incoming families. Calendars are helpful as refugees schedule meetings with their mentors and practice English. Drop off calendars at 4753 N. Broadway, Suite 401, Chicago.
Give Support
Support Alzheimer’s Research and Care
Alzheimer’s Association — Greater Illinois Chapter, 312-315-5496
During National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month (November), support the Alzheimer’s Association — Greater Illinois Chapter. As the cost of care continues to grow, your donation will help the association provide care and support to both those with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers, in addition to funding research to find a cure.
Help Children in Crisis
Mothers Trust Foundation, 847-482-9189
By providing hope and building confidence, Mothers Trust Foundation (MTF) supports Lake County’s low-income children during times of crisis. MTF, a Make It Better Philanthropy Award winner, guarantees donations will directly provide benefits and emergency assistance when a child needs it. Donations can be mailed to 400 E. Illinois, Lake Forest, IL 60045, or visit MTF’s website.
Donate During National Adoption Month
The Cradle, 847-475-5800
November is National Adoption Month and you can support The Cradle’s mission to provide education, guidance and support to children and families touched by adoption. Donate today to support The Cradle’s work caring for vulnerable babies, supporting those facing an unplanned pregnancy, educating adoptive and foster parents, counseling children and families and meeting the needs of diverse families.
